Jakarta, November 30th 2011 – Effective from November 17th 2011 until November 16th 2014, all imported “canvas made from synthetic fiber except for awning and sun shades that are included in HS Ex 6306.12.00.00” shall be imposed a Safeguard Excise Tax (BMTP). This policy is based on the Regulation of the Ministry of Finance (PMK) Number 176/PMK.011/2011 dated November 17th 2011 on Safeguard Excise Tax (BMTP) on imported goods.

The list of the Safeguard Tax is detailed as follows: 1) Year I (November 17th 2011 - November 16th 2012) the tax is Rp 13,643/kg; 2) Year II (November 17th 2012 – November 16th 2013) the tax is Rp 12,643/kg; and 3) Year III (November 17th 2013 - November 16th 2014) the tax is Rp 11,643/kg.

In accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Trade, Number 37/M-DAG/Per/9/2008 on Certificate of Origin of Imported Goods that are subject to Safeguard Tax, the importer must submit a Certificate of Origin of the imported goods stating the origins of the goods from countries other than the developing countries as listed in said regulation of the Ministry of Finance.
